1000 Docstoc Invites for Read/WriteWeb Readers

Written by Josh Catone / October 5, 2007 11:25 AM / 8 Comments

Docstoc, which demoed at the TechCrunch40 last month, is offering 1000 private beta invites to Read/WriteWeb readers. Docstoc is aiming to be the YouTube or Flickr of professional documents, by allowing users to upload and share (via an embeddable flash widget) professional documents.

Docstoc has been in private beta and approaching official launch, but they were kind enough to give 1000 Read/WriteWeb readers a chance to preview the service early. Just navigate to http://docstoc.com/User/register.aspx and enter "RWW" (without the quotes) as the invite code to claim your invite. These are released on a first come, first serve basis.

A video introducing Docstoc to Read/WriteWeb readers (you!) is embedded below.

Remember, go to http://docstoc.com/User/register.aspx and enter "RWW" (without the quotes) as the invite code to check out Docstoc. Let us know what you think of it.

  1. Bad site: when ActiveX is disabled, you can not even log in ...

  4. I've just signed up and I am appalled at some of the content on there. Under creative/writing, for example, is the following (by user iamgod):

"The way to a woman’s heart is through her broken ribs.

Forget roses. Forget expensive boxes of candy. Forget moonlit walks along the beach. Forget every piece of advice you’ve heard on The View.

If you want to impress a woman, think black eyes, fat lips, broken noses, and romantic evenings in the emergency room. On the way to hospital, open the lines of communication by deciding if the little lady should claim that she fell down the stairs or off her bike.

Don’t listen to women who say they crave caring, touchy-feely men. Women only want a sensitive man until a real man walks through the door….

If Mr. Nice Guy reaches his breaking point after walking in on his girlfriend getting nailed by a USP driver, his ass will be in jail before the cum-stained sheets dry. Tenderizing the cunt’s face might be right, but it’s not legal."

Thankfully they have an 'flag as inappropriate' link. I hope this document will be removed.

  5. It seems to be like Scribd, but it doesn't work with Blogger.com, the embed codes doesn't work.

  6. Doc,

The ActiveX control we are using is Flash, which is required in order to have the best usability of the site. From that standpoint, we are no different than many others sites such as YouTube.

That said, you can still navigate the site, upload and download all content, you will simply not be able to preview the documents.

  7. The registration form is poorly done. I mistyped the password on the first password text box and hit tab. Then I wanted to go back to the password box to fix it. But it wouldn't let me. The validaton on retype-password box is set to reset focus to the retype-textbox when the passwords don't match. That's just wrong. I had to refresh the page and everything again to fix the password.
