A couple of weeks ago we held a competition, asking you to tell us what web 2.0 apps most excite you currently. We had a great response, with 113 comments. I decided to list each web app mentioned in a spreadsheet and count up the most popular. What surprised me was the number of web apps that got at least one mention: 161. No doubt some of those were left by the developers themselves, but many were left by seemingly passionate users. The most popular were the usual suspects: Twitter, Flickr, FriendFeed, Google Reader. I'd like to see Wrike.com in the list. It's one of the tools I use daily and now I simply can't imagine my life without it. In short, Wrike is an amazingly project management tool integrated with e-mail. It saves me loads of time!

An error in the submit function returns an error to the user, causing multiple submissions.

Next time you do this, please use rankrz.com. If you did that, you don't have to do spreadsheets. Plus, it will always be there. And you can just write posts when there is an interesting change or entry.

Hey Richard,

This is a cool post, as we have seen so many startups go past the doors here at RWW. It is hard to argue with popularity sometimes, but I like to delve into the realm of "should be" or perhaps potentiality sometimes.

Hakia is perhaps my favorite startup simply because of the task set before them and the potential for excellence there. Twitter and Facebook etc. are in my view "cotton candy" applications worth little more than the attention span of their users. Most of the applications listed are bordering on the same "entertainment" aspect of Internet endeavor I think.

Substantive applications, if we think about it, are rather few and far between, and I think most people realize this on some level. Those with the most potential long term value could be classified as either search or other tool types like hakia and secondly aggregators or libraries with increasing utility and function for the users.

Some of those covered here include: www.secondbrain.com www.powerset.com www.hakia.com (of course) www.wikipedia.org and similar sites. The bottom line really is; "What application has the ability to put digital information in shoe leather." Beside entertainment, anything that does not transport digital world reality into physical world concrete value - is essentially fluff.

On the entertainment side, I like Veoh TV the best followed closely by all your color coordinated, "bells and whistles" instant messengers like Twitter. I know this sound cynical, but I know you might agree to an extent as we have all covered hundreds of these things. What is really valuable?
