Hi Richard,

I would like to have a ticket to the Mobile 2.0 Conference. Those are the startups I'm monitoring right now:

1) Aka-Aki. The first reason is patriotism. I'm from Germany and those guys are from Berlin. I met some of them, a great crew and a very nice product. An other reason is: It's not a copycat, like many startups in Germany. That's refreshing, because Aka-Aki is a rather nice mobile social community with great improvements over the last few month.

2) Brightkite. I've been talking with Sarah about them. They have a lot good features, a nice design and a great support for the iPhone. The best feature - at least from my perspective - is their privacy control. Not to many startups are thinking about this from the start.

There are a some other startups I'm taking a closer look at, but not as much as with the two I've mentioned right now.

Anything that can level the playing field on mobile devices with the experience that you can get on a PC, I think, is crucial to moving the masses onto mobile devices.

I'd love to go to the conference in Barcelona
I work in mobile user experience and I've been following:

www.Nimbuzz.com: A great IM client, that supports multiple protocols, GTalk,MSN,Yahoo messenger etc.
It imports your phone's address book, which you can then use to send email, start a chat or start an IP phonecall. This removes a significant barrier to use as you dont have to re enter all your contacts details to use it.

It has developed from a stand alone app to an intergrated approach which allows you to have it run in the background. This means you can start it and forget about it. If someone wants to contact you they can start to chat and the phone will alert you exactly the same way as you would for an sms message.
This approach is much more similar to the IM exprience on the desktop as it allows for more spontaneous communication with your friends, colleagues etc. as well as mirroring the experience of texting on mobiles.

It leverages the fact that the mobile is primarily a communications device and it allows the user to take their online modes of communication into a mobile context.
From a price perspective in countries where aggressive pricing for mobile broadband has been introduced it proivides a cheaper alternative to texting especially for a younger demographic that is price sensitive and accustomed to "always on" instant messaging.

Hope thats not to much of a rant !
