What Three Web Apps Excite You Most?

One of our favorite Australians, Lachlan Hardy, twittered an interesting question today: What are the three things online that are exciting you most? Lachlan was asked this question as part of a newspaper article in the Sydney Morning Herald. His own answers were interesting, but he also got a great response from commentors on his blog. So we thought we'd ask the same question (well, slightly re-worded) here on ReadWriteWeb.

]]> The three web apps most exciting me currently are: Imeem (I'm enjoying exploring this admittedly trendy music site, especially the playlists), soup.io (an underrated lifestreaming app, better than Tumblr IMHO, with full-text feeds and loads of ajaxy goodness), and... Cuil. No I'm kidding about the last one. The third is Basecamp (the online project management service that keeps our RWW business on track and organized; maybe stretching to call it 'exciting', but as a business app it does the business).

Lachlan said that his favorite 3 things online were Twitter (www.twitter.com), Tumblr (www.tumblr.com) and Fire Eagle (www.fireeagle.yahoo.net).

As for web apps.. well, I suppose it depends on where the line sits between handy websites and web apps.

Excluding news sites, RSS feeds, social networks, games, forums, video sites, etc..

I'll just say one - Google Maps.

1) Wufoo - excellent form/survey app. Use it everyday for business purposes
2) Flickr - an oldie, but still tops for photo sharing
3) Google Maps - Street View may the one of the coolest (and creepiest) features I've seen recently. Apparently my lawn needed mowing when the google truck went by.

In a way I'm saddened by this post or more to the point by the comments. I was excited at the prospect of discovering some great apps in the comments but alas, it seems there are no truly exciting apps out there.

And this is not an indictment of the posters of the comments, just despair at the somewhat mediocre state of affairs in the world of web 2.0.

I can't do much better I'm afraid - my list is:

- Facebook - I find that I get excited not about the site itself but about news about it.
- Google Reader - Still my most used app.
- Iceberg application builder.

1 Often no computer or need to access work in another country etc. so www.zoho.com because docs google just goes into chinese or dutch or whatever, zoho stays in english. The only way i submitted my last essay from china was writing in internet cafes in zoho, and 'exporting as word' - essential at university. www.airset.com is a close second though. For stats, sisa and other online statistics applications. No, i can't afford SPSS! Is statcrunch worth joining?
2 I often search random stuff, sometimes in blackle sometimes in wikipedia, i need both.
3 most everything i imagine and want on the net, i can't have, and i'm 40 i'm not spending the rest of my life realising it, i want to get pregnant. Email remains core, and www.fastmail.fm is the only one that's really fast, you don't know until you're on dial-up, gmail fast?!
