Will there be a push in China to become fluent in English. That would make them a major player on the Web.

Just compare how much programming/development work is being outsourced to India as a result of their fluency.

One imagines that if the next generation does become moderately fluent - it will make a significant difference in their online interaction with the western world and their fortunes.

Indeed the language issue will be the No.1 factor that affect China's internet users to interact with western world.

It will be resolved with time though.

On http://www.happytutors.com, about 8% of visitors are from China. We are going to open Chinese version when the time comes.

When people are talking about the language barrier for Chinese web, Goofy2 Global English Beta provides with it own solution to that issue yesterday.

It was open to western users to test the web 2.0 Chinese creation, instead of western hot site clones. It may look like Twitter at first glance,but take a second look and register for a trial. You probably would agree with me that it is the next big thing that may take place of Twitter.
