Poll: Which Word Processing Tool Do You Mostly Use?

We ran a poll a year ago asking which word processing tool you used the most. What we were really driving at was: how many of you are using an online word processing service (Google Docs, Zoho, ThinkFree, etc) as your main tool, instead of a traditional desktop one (MS Word, OpenOffice, etc). The results surprised us a bit: MS Word got an overwhelming 46% of the vote, with OpenOffice next on 17%. The best of the online breed was Google Docs, with 11%. Perhaps we shouldn't have been surprised, given that Web Office is still relatively new and not entirely reliable yet. Still, we're keen to know if things have changed over the past year. Notepad, as I don't do a lot of word processing, and notepad loads the fastest when i need to write something down. Or quickly edit some html or something.

I use both OpenOffice and Google Docs (but OpenOffice a bit more, so I marked that in the poll).

I use MS Word.

Have tried Zoho's Writer which worked out ok, and Google Docs which I gave about 1 minute. What reason is there for giving Docs any publicity what so ever, in its current shape? It's like notepad with an additional 3 options.

Since Google Docs has the "ofline" capability I use it 99% of the time. On the other 1% I use TextEdit and then, when I have the time I upload those TXT or RTF's to GoogleDocs.

I use MS Word, because of its usability everywhere and supported file type. For programming I use notepad++

Apple's Page, definitely. The only missing feature is MS Word outline mode, other than that, it's a perfect word processor, and it can do most of what would have required Xpress before.

If you have a mac, it's definitely worth a trial.

I mostly use Scrivener, Apple Pages and MS Word - prefer Scrivener for the writing process itself and then export the text to either Pages or Word.

For serious word processing, still nothing touches Word (and nothing looks to close that gap very soon). I may have a text editor open, more, though, as I markup blog posts using something simple.

Online, it is Google Docs for convenience or Buzzword for comfort. I use neither very often, though.

I use notepad for about 2/3rds of my writing. I can change the size of the window easily so I can see what is on a webpage as I write. I can write in html with out being alerted to a hundred different spelling errors that are html code. I don't lose the flow when I start writing in html. Save is easy to find and use. The program doesn't slow as a result of autosave. After I do that, it is a simple matter to copy and paste that to the appropriate box, and use FireFox's spell check.

Beyond that, I use Microsoft Word. Simple. Ubiquitous. Easy to share. It is the expected file format when you need to send business plans, invoices, fan fiction for beta reading...

Mostly Apple Pages for word processing. I only use Google Docs for documents that need to be edited by several people at once and where the formatting doesn't matter.

It's a split, about 50/50 of notepad or notepad2, depends on whether i need the lines to break.

Of course, I use the html editor in Wordpress more than anything else.

I use NeoOffice, the OSX version of OpenOffice...although now that I'm not in school, I don't really use anything. Trying to use online apps (Google Docs, mostly) more, but it's doesn't offer the formatting capabilities that my crazy 2cm-margin/speficic font/uniform header OCD likes... I'm waiting for the day online WP apps catch up in formatting to NeoOffice and similar desktop apps, though!

Sad to say, I have to us MS Word for work. However, when I replace my home computer, I'll need to re-think my software.

I use Word, because I need it at work. I love all of the open source stuff, but Word is still better.
I use Notepad++ for a lot of text and code editing, when I don't want any formatting or bloat.

I use Pages (part of iWork) and honestly, I've never used a word processor that I've loved this much before.

Maybe it's because I don't feel like I'm fighting with it all the time to do basic stuff like including an image that text wraps around or formatting document headers.

I bought iWork because Keynote was significantly more usable than PowerPoint and tried Pages and never looked back. Now, if they could just get Numbers to 2.0 :-)
