I was hoping you were going to offer us a more extensive commentary on the subject than this! ;) Perhaps you can make this the first in a series of posts?
I attended a Microsoft event in Philadelphia a few years back announcing the launch of the 2005 suite (VS, SQL, etc.). I remember being shocked at the similarity of the event to some "spiritual conferences" I had attended. The "evangelism", the atmosphere (lighting/music), etc.
Additionally, another interesting aspect is how the "spiritual" sector is utilizing technology. For example, CCEL (ccel.org) uses a very web 2.0 interface to digitize ancient/classical Christian texts and allows tagging, notes, and editing - as well as forums that support conversations around the topic. BibleMap.org is a unique overlay of Christian Scriptural history/information over a Google Map using the Google Maps API. Finally, churches like LifeChurch.tv are establishing entirely virtual venues for worship - such as in Second Life.
Ohh, I might also mention that Leonard Sweet, a emerging church leader, thinks a lot about these topics...and might be worth a shout out to if you ever do consider writing a series on this interesting topic.
