Iran is a (demographically) young, intelligent, questing country with a long and fascinating history. For those of you who've only read about it in newspapers or in Greek history, it's worth looking at the world from Iran outward. There are several good, if slightly dull, histories of Iran out there. Unfortunately, any country with a hard shell of True Believers on the top is going to create a huge amount of pressure below. There's also the problem that Iranians, even dissident kids, may, say, want Iran to have military power as a point of pride. Even those of us in the US, for instance, who are relieved to see the guard change rarely also would like to, say, sell our Navy to Ecuador. So if your idea of a good time is complexity, excitement, and conversation, befriend some Iranian bloggers.
