Breaking: Six Apart Announces Wordpress Plugins

San Francisco based social networking and blogging company Six Apart announced today at WordCamp Mid-Atlantic that it is introducing plugins that will work on rival Wordpress sites and other blogging platforms.

]]> This is big news and akin to Apple releasing software that runs on Windows. Six Apart should be commended for choosing a very grassroots-type Wordpress event to make this announcement and we think this is a good way to introduce its services to bloggers on other platforms. Shashi Bellamkonda had the opportunity to interview Six Apart VP Anil Dash about this shocking move. You can find that interview here.

At press time we have not had a chance to try out Six Apart's new free, open source plugins but Wordpress users can read more about them and try them out here.

Hi Doug,

Thanks for mentioning my interview with Anil Dash today in this post. I was very excited that Six Apart decided on a strategy of going to a WordCamp ( a very grass roots event ) and announce this. That is very good strategy and I think it will earn them some Karma points. Maybe they will sponsor some Word Camps too :)

"... akin to Apple announcing that it will use a Windows operating system..." No it's not, it's more akin to Apple releasing software that runs on Windows which isn't that shocking. If SixApart were looking to switch their blogging engine to run Wordpress, then your analogy would be correct.

Wow this is some big news. I use wordpress but now there is going to be quite possibly a better platform for easy blogging.

I was surprised at this news but I dont think wordpress has much to worry about right now. It is being used so frequently that it can take a little bit of competition.

Sorry, but the only real news here is the URL sixapart.com/wordpress. The listed plugins are available for all mentioned blogging platforms since months. Just head over to the Six Apart blog or even the RWW archives. Or am I missing anything here?

The usability and sheer number of plugins to fit any type of blog is probably the number one reason why I love Wordpress more than any other blogger platform out there.
