Bing Shopping, the comparison shopping tool that is part of Microsoft's new search engine, saw some impressive growth last month. According to Hitwise's Heather Dougherty, visits to Bing Shopping increased 169% last month and Bing is now the 4th most popular shopping comparison site in the US. Just last month, Bing was still in 8th place. Clearly, Microsoft's marketing muscle behind Bing.com and consumer interest in Microsoft's Double Cashback promotion brought a lot of new users to Bing Shopping in June.

]]> According to Hitwise, about one third of all the visitors to Bing Shopping came from Bing.com and MSN. What is interesting, is that Hitwise found that 66% of the visitors who came from Bing and 50% of those who came from MSN hadn't been to Bing Shopping in the last 30 days. Given that Bing is only now getting on a lot of consumers' radar, these numbers make a lot of sense.

Given this growth for Bing Shopping, it doesn't come as a surprise that most of Bing's competitors lost some market share during the last month. All of the top 3 shopping tools (Yahoo Shopping, Bizrate, and Shopzilla) lost between 2% and 5%.

As a "Heavy" online shopper (i do all my shopping for myself and for my business online) - and i use actually Pricegong- i found it usefull several times and it did saved me money- but also when it doesn't show me lower prices- it does give me the feeling that the price i got in the specific site is fair. I can tell it sometime might be annoying and i snozze it- but basically- works great for me.

I think it will still take some time before google is outdone by bing as a general search engine, people know and trust the results from google and general consumers are just getting used to online shopping and looking for SSL Certificates on the site will take a while to even here about bing never mind convert to bing from google! There are two types of consumer those who are up to date and want the latest and best, those who are on twitter and facebook and know about bing and there are the majority of people who have just discovered tesco online to do their weekly shop.

I must be the only one but I don't like Bing shopping at all. Not all that user-friendly. I'll stick with www.sortprice.com thank you very much...especially since their Wishlist app lets me shop on facebook.

I prefer browser add-ons for price comparisons such as those provided by PriceGong or SmartShopper, or for rebate/cashback applications like uPromise’s TurboSaver. I often shop on Amazon or BestBuy.com to find browse for products, but appreciate the convenience of alerts to let me know if the prices on the big retail sites are way too high. I am surprised more of the big shopping comparison sites to build add-on tools to make their content more accessible.

The business I cofounded, W3i (http://www.W3i.com) helps some of these shopping add-ons get massive distribution.

I can see microsoft is getting aggressive on their marketing tactics to promote and bring up bing to be on competitive level with google. The cashback program will definitely make a lot of difference to get people to be loyal towards bing.

Its called Double Cashback. Every time MSN used to offer extra cashback at big retailers, there would be a large surge in orders.

Look at a website like slickdeals, particularly http://bit.ly/JNjUm and all of this information makes sense.

The REAL question, would be whether or not these numbers will remain after the double cashback craze ends. My guess would be a resounding "NO" as money conscientious consumers will move to wherever the deals are better.
