This year's OneWebDay, on Tuesday, September 22, has the slogan "One Web. For All." It's geared to raising awareness of and generating discussion on the digital divide, a topic that seems to me to have drifted out of fashion in recent years.

("One Web. For All." also has the virtue of being a shorter, catchier slogan than the one being pushed by the telecommunications industry: "Two Webs. One a Really Fast Super-Premium Web, and the Other One for You.")

]]> It's much too easy to assume, with all the voices that have gained access to the 'net with the rise of social media, that everyone's now connected. I'm a Brit living in semi-rural India. We have 'broadband' and, indeed, the speed is nothing miraculous. Of course the digital divide is a bad thing.

But just to state the obvious: most parts of the world have far more pressing problems to solve than this.

(e.g. hundreds of millions of Indians would rather have water, sanitation, the monsoon etc etc)

I really liked the article and it's really interesting. I liked the cartoon sketch and the slogan and I also saw the more noise to signal images and that too are wonderfull..

I vote for one web for all!!! You are so correct about the telecommunications influence and control. At least in the US, it looks like that the telecommunications companies will have to change their strategies if the ruling comes out as anticipated. I love the new slogan!! Thanks for the post.
