It's no secret that the mobile web is one of the next big things. From the future of mobile social networks, mobile social networks to check out, and what's plaguing them, we've talked a lot about mobile social networks here on ReadWriteWeb. But what about the applications? Here's a look at some of best mobile applications for the Windows Mobile platform.
If you've been waiting for the Windows Mobile equivalent of Safari on the iPhone, Skyfire is as good as it gets. Skyfire is the best way to experience better mobile browsing on a Windows Mobile phone. You can watch Youtube videos to your hearts content or check out Last.fm or Imeem to stream music. With a waiting list longer than the hottest club in your town, I guarantee you won't be disappointed with Skyfire.
AOL recently launched a windows mobile version AIM, the AOL Instant Messenging service. The client sports a nice UI that won't confuse longtime users of the service nor new comers of its desktop client. Navigation is intuitive with a ton of features to stay connected with your AIM buddies. The best part? AIM mobile is available for both Windows Mobile 5 and 6 operating systems.

Looking for a neat way to find, capture, and sync things to your mobile phone? Look no further than Evernote. Using Evernote, you can create notes, upload images, email notes, scan items, and record audio notes for later. One really cool function that Evernote possess is the ability to recognize text in an image. Evernote can make a note of that text to fine-tune images are included in the search results. Evernote has more than enough features for you to remember just about anything. See our in-depth review of Evernote for more.
If you're a heavy Google Talk or Skype user, Fring gives you the best of both worlds. In fact, Fring gives you quite a few options to stay connected with your online friends. From Yahoo Messenger to Twitter, or using your Skype account to make calls, Fring is the mobile equivalent of Digsby.
Yahoo! Go 3 is the latest release in Yahoo's mobile platform of products. You can check the news, upload and view Flickr images, check your Yahoo! Mail, search, and even view your FriendFeed and Facebook stream. The app features a great UI, which will be a welcomed change from the ugliness of quite a few apps made for Windows Mobile. All in all, this mobile app rocks!

No mobile list could be complete without a great Twitter application. While we're not sure if you'll be able to access them very often given Twitter's continuous API limits and restrictions, once Twitter improves you'll want these two apps on your Windows Mobile phone immediately. ceTwit and Tiny Twitter feature different UI's based on the Twitter mobile website. You can check Twitter replies, direct messages, automatic refresh and tons more. You can't go wrong with either one, but we'll leave it up to you to decide which has a more preferable UI.

There are a host of applications out there that we couldn't include on the list. With so many to choose, these are some of the best mobile apps for Windows Mobile. Next up we'll let you know of some great apps for Blackberry users. With that being said, we'd like to know what programs you're using to stay connected.

The Skyfire folks are probably tired of all my attempts to get in the betas :-) Maybe you should've mentioned it's not widely available yet though.
where's opera mobile? i know it's $25 but it's a must
skyfire need to pull their thumbs out of the ***** and release a version to everyone or open up to people in the uk. I am tired of hearing how good it is!
cool list I will install most of these.
@Chris K - I mentioned that it has a waiting list longer than the hottest club in your town. I think everyone gets the hint.
@Allen Stern - Allen, I've tried Opera Mobile myself and it just doesn't compare for me. Sure it adds tabs and a few other things that PIE lacks, but as far as better browsing goes Opera Mobile didn't cut it for me.
interesting - i can write posts on CN using opera mobile (not mini) - it does js and renders perfectly from what ive seen so far.
I guess I'm one of the lucky ones as I've been using Skyfire for a while now. It's been great. I use YomoMedia as my primary newsreader but would love to have Skyfire as my default browser instead of IE. (Disclaimer: I'm a co-founder of YomoMedia)
If you havent tried it, Live Search for Windows Mobile is a must have app as well!
