ReadWriteWeb Acquired by SAY Media

By Richard MacManus / December 14, 2011 7:10 AM / Comments

I'm thrilled to announce that ReadWriteWeb has been acquired by SAY Media, a digital publishing company headquartered in San Francisco. ReadWriteWeb will anchor SAY Media's growing Technology channel, which reaches more than 75 million global consumers each month.

ReadWriteWeb is going to get bigger and even better. Our plans include widening ReadWriteWeb's editorial scope and expanding our team. That starts from today, with the addition of SplatF's Dan Frommer to our team as an editor-at-large. We will also be doing a re-design, utilizing the sophisticated designers at SAY Media. With SAY's technology and services, we'll be able to scale ReadWriteWeb in ways previously unavailable to us. So I'm very excited about our team joining SAY Media. We're going to take ReadWriteWeb to the next level!

Circle ReadWriteWeb on Google+

By Richard MacManus / November 7, 2011 3:50 PM / Comments

Today Google+ launched Pages for brands and organizations. We don't know yet how brands will use Google+ Pages. But it's a good bet that they will be conversational, given the traction that Google+ has shown with topic-based communities.

We've dived right in and created a Google+ Page for ReadWriteWeb. Our brand is for engaged technologists to discover and discuss
what's next on the Web, so we hope to get to know our community better in Google+. Circle RWW to explore the future with us!

Introducing Our New Community Manager: Robyn Tippins

By Richard MacManus / July 12, 2011 10:00 AM / Comments

I'm thrilled to introduce ReadWriteWeb's new Senior Community Manager, Robyn Tippins. Robyn comes to us from Current TV, where she was their Senior Community Manager. Prior to that, Robyn was Community Manager at Yahoo Developer Network from 2008-2010 and before that MyBlogLog. What's more, Robyn has literally written the book on Community Management: Community 101: How to Grow an Online Community, published last year.

So Robyn has a wealth of experience in this role! She is also a wonderful personal fit for our brand of smart, passionate, forward-thinking tech news coverage. You'll see Robyn involved in the RWW comments, on Twitter, Facebook and many other social communities - including of course Google Plus!

ReadWriteWeb is Hiring a News Writer - Is It You?

By Abraham Hyatt / June 28, 2011 8:00 AM / Comments

rwwsquarelogo_150x150.jpgThe editorial team here at ReadWriteWeb is a unique bunch of journalists with very diverse backgrounds, but we all share a passion for one thing: Web technology. When you combine that team with powerful research tools, a fun and collaborative virtual newsroom, speed, integrity and thoughtfulness, you end up with the stories you see on this site every day.

We're looking for someone to join us. We're looking for a smart, competitive journalist to cover Web tech news and to synthesize that news into the analytical and conceptual articles that we're known for.

Introducing Our New Business Channels Editor: David Strom

By Richard MacManus / May 23, 2011 6:00 AM / Comments

Over the past couple of years we've been growing our ReadWriteWeb channels. These are subsites of ReadWriteWeb that are targeted at a specific audience. We now have six channels: ReadWriteEnterprise, ReadWriteCloud, ReadWriteHack, ReadWriteBiz, ReadWriteStart and ReadWriteMobile. As our channels have grown, the opportunity has arisen for an experienced editorial manager to join our team.

Today, David Strom starts as our new Business Channels Editor. David will be responsible for leading and managing the business-focused channels, which currently are ReadWriteEnterprise, ReadWriteCloud, ReadWriteHack and ReadWriteBiz. David is a vastly experienced editorial manager. For example he was Executive Editor at PC Week magazine in the late 1980s, while I was still at school! So we're thrilled to have David join ReadWriteWeb. Here's more about David's career so far:

Happy Birthday, ReadWriteWeb! A Look Back at 8 Years of RWW Designs

By Richard MacManus / April 20, 2011 11:30 AM / Comments

Today, April 20, marks the 8th birthday of ReadWriteWeb. Like a self-titled debut album, the first post on April 20, 2003 was simply titled: The Read/Write Web. It began: "The World Wide Web in 2003 is beginning to fulfil the hopes that Tim Berners-Lee had for it over 10 years ago when he created it." I started ReadWriteWeb as a way to explore Web technology. The first tagline was: "Richard MacManus' weblog about the Two-Way Web." This was well before the term 'web 2.0' came along, so back then I used Dave Winer's term two-way web to describe my interest. I was really referring to what's next on the Web, which I had a passion for and wanted to write about.

Ever wondered what RWW looked like 8 years ago? In this post I nostalgically look back on 8 years of homepage designs for ReadWriteWeb.

ReadWriteMobile: New Channel, Authored by @sarahintampa

By Richard MacManus / September 27, 2010 9:45 AM / Comments

Today we're launching our sixth channel, ReadWriteMobile. Sponsored by Alcatel-Lucent, ReadWriteMobile is dedicated to helping its community understand the strategic business and technical implications of developing mobile applications.

ReadWriteMobile will be authored by Sarah Perez, who you all know as a feature writer for ReadWriteWeb. Sarah admits in her Twitter profile that she's "obsessed with mobile," so I think you'll agree that she's the ideal writer for this new channel. I'm also thrilled to announce that Sarah is now a full-time member of our team! Sarah is the ninth full-time person at ReadWriteWeb.
