Admin: Upgrade Complete (and note about Weekly Wrap-Up)

Written by Richard MacManus / November 27, 2005 9:01 PM / 8 Comments

I've upgraded my blog to Movable Type 3.2, in order to defeat some bugs and trackback spam that had infiltrated the previous installation. So apologies if you'd visited my site recently and found it under construction. Note that I resisted the urge to put a blinking and animated 'Under Construction' button on my homepage - it would've been retro, but annoying.

If you can be bothered clicking through to the website, you'll see a new design. It's one of the many new SixApart gallery templates, but tweaked to my needs. I still have some tidying up to do. Also I re-opened comments and trackbacks to last week's posts (I had to close them a couple of days ago due to a particularly annoying bug that killed my RSS feed every few minutes).

It feels almost like a fresh start to my blog. On that note, the Weekly Wrap-Up is being moved to a Friday publication. I think it's better suited to the end of the week, rather than the start.

Let me know your feedback about any of this, especially if you spot any glitches in the new design.

Back to normal writing transmission shortly.

  1. Your posts are always interesting and informative, I'm grateful for the effort you put into the weblog.

I read it via NetNewsWire; per your request, I clicked throug to look at the actual site itself, and I have to tell you, the color scheme is horrible, heh.

That's alright, though - I read your weblog for the content, and my newsreader lets me grab the full-text feeds without worrying about the original layout.

    Remember, you asked.

  2. I actually like the new layout better than the old one - it's a lot cleaner looking and easier to delineate between sections. As for the color scheme, eh, it doesn't bother me.

Glad to see it's up and running now... your feed was acting up for awhile for me, but maybe it was just Bloglines.

  3. Richard, new site is absolutely excellent! But what about the picture you used to have of the giant...what were they? Pencils? I like that picture. :-) (sorry everyone, inside joke)

  4. Roland, that's right I did ask :-) Thanks for your honest feedback, much appreciated.

Thanks Brian too. It was an issue with comments, trackbacks, new plug-ins and MT 3.12 that fried my RSS feed over the past few days. Hopefully the upgrade has fixed all that.

Mike, yes I'm wondering where to, er, stick the pencils ;-)

  5. I'm not so much into the bright red, but it does seem to be easier to follow than the other site.

  6. I think this layout is a major improvement...i don't know about the hot red on dull orange, but hey, it's different and that's value in and of itself! :)
