Automattic, the company behind the popular blogging platform WordPress , yesterday announced their new site WordPress TV, a place where you can find all things WordPress in visual form. Filled with tutorials for both WordPress.com and WordPress.org, the site has also been designed to give footage from WordCamps of the past a home on the Web.
At the moment, WordPress TV hosts about 24 150 videos [thanks Michael], divided between WordCamp TV and basic how-to videos but a lot more is on its way. Over time the site is expected to host a variety of videos as well as slideshows of presentations made by the WordPress team.
"We hope you'll consider WordPress.tv not just a support resource, but a place to hang out and keep up with all the geeky goodness going on in the WordPress community," Matt Mullenweg said in a post on the launch of the new service.
The introductory video (embedded below) gives a brief overview of the site and calls out to the WordPress community for help; if you've got a video you think should be added, or want to request a specific tutorial, you can put in a request to Team Automattic.
Great move by Automattic in adding WordPress TV to their growing list of projects.

This is a very nice new. Thank you Lidija for your sharing :)
too bad i couldn't come to WordCamp Indonesia earlier today. I wish i can ask Matt (in person) about whether Automattic will release Wordpress.tv as a service or an apllication platform. It would be nice if Wordpress.tv comes in competition with YouTube and Vimeo.
I thought Michael Pick was going to be screwing in lightbulbs? :) Looking forward to it!
I love wordpress, but are videos really necessary for something so easy to use?
Yay - ReadWriteWebbed! Thanks for the coverage Lidija - much appreciated. Small correction - there are about 150 videos at the moment, but we'll be working on getting a more out weekly and we're starting to get some really nice ideas and submissions
@rama - we open sourced our video platform a while back - it's not strictly out of the box, but worth a look
@Marshall - ha! This is my part-time job - only so many lightbulbs to screw in when you work for a virtual company :)
@tech mogo - A day in support cured me of that illusion pretty fast - I think it's easy for us to forget what we didn't know when we started out
Looks really nice, should help out people considering that there are companies selling this information for insane prices.
It will be a great help to those doubt-guys. And Wordpresstv is a good name.
Great stuff, I love Wordpress and the quality of the products they being out.
Keep it up!
Very excited to see Wordpress do this. The tutorials will really provide a lot of value to the public! Makes it even more of an inclusive hub to learn and grow with the entire wordpress/automatic community.
Wow,
As a video producer I continue to be amazed (and excited from a business standpoint) at the ever growing impact of online video.
