Our poll this week asks: Which Web company impressed you the most over the first half of 2007? Mid-week, Facebook has a handy lead over Google. Facebook has 34% of the vote, with Google second on 27%. Apple is third with 15%, probably reflecting the recent iPhone launch. Note that we added Adobe and Mozilla after about 100 votes, so the others got a bit of a head start.

While Facebook has been an incredibly impressive service and is certainly one of the most impressive websites to date, I have chosen 'Other' for the simple reason that Facebook impressed me a long time ago, and has never ceased. For 2007, however, I found Newsvine's new site to be the most impressive move. It's interactive nature, and easy navigation of millions of news items is very impressive indeed. The drag-and-drop content boxes adds a little cleverness to the mix, and the fact that there is actually readable content among the usual web-banter is enough to make it the most impressive service I've seen online in 2007!

C'mon Richard,
How do you even put Apple on this list? Launching the iPhone makes it a web company??? You tech bloggers should stop worshiping Google and Apple. It definitely puts a kink on your credibility.

I never thought the day would come when I had to defend Apple ;-)
Surely Apple is just as much a Web company as the others - iPod/iTunes is probably the best example yet of desktop/Web integration. The iPhone too is hugely innovative in terms of enabling web apps to run on it -- it's arguably the best web platform yet for mobile (altho Opera for one has done a lot of great stuff in that regard).
I'm not saying Apple is *only* a web company - obviously it is probably more involved in the hardware side of things. But it certainly has contributed a lot of great things to the web, so that makes it a web company in my mind.
What do others think?
