Cartoon: Maybe This One Will Go Viral

Written by Rob Cottingham / May 3, 2009 12:18 PM / 9 Comments

I'm not sure what's more surreal: hearing that "The WHO" has declared a level-five alert (which I believe means a tour with more than three dates on at least two continents), or the success of the pork lobby, among others, in convincing the powers that be to stop calling it "swine flu".

I'm hoping to get people to call it "pork lobby flu." So far, few takers.

  1. Ahh Swine Flu! I am surpringly declining in how frightened I am of it, strange but everyone keeps saying, it won't get us, we live in Britain! We have Vaccines!

In response to the photo, well what can i say? :P

  2. We should also have a short url for the swine flu. It's a pity that the domain swinef.lu is already taken.

  3. Maybe a custom URL shortener for #swineflu resources? I can't help but notice that sick.ly is available...

  4. I don't get it. I could look up hashtag but that's not fair... because no one else will. I do delight in the ribbing of the fake Pandemic though. Honestly, it's a big joke. So much so, you can work in the word "hashtag" into it.

  5. I don't get it. Why "a tour with more than three dates on at least two continents"?

  6. Great cartoon. Yes, Swine flu is indeed the latest panic on earth and if one follows twitter trends, one understands how much the world is worried about it.

  7. This is one of the best so far! In one line, you commented on multiple trendy topics. Will need to help make it viral, tis our civil duty.

  8. @Anrkist, hashtags are keywords (preceded with the "#" or "hash" character) used to organize conversations in Twitter.

@yy, the joke is that some of us of a certain age associate The Who with a rock band rather than a global health organization. (Coincidentally, WHO scientists smash their instruments after every experiment. And only one WHO scientist has had a decent solo career.)

  9. Speaking of the WHO, check out this WHO inspired cartoon!
