Cartoon: Social Web Workaholic

Written by Rob Cottingham / October 5, 2008 12:41 PM / 9 Comments

Sorry you're not seeing this cartoon earlier, but I had to update my Facebook status, upload and tag my Flickr photos from yesterday, answer three LinkedIn questions and stay on top of my Twitter feed.

There's something seductive about the social web, and the way it drives us to be always updating, always staying on top of our friends' updates, and always painfully aware that we could and should be doing more. I'd discuss more, but I need to go join a Seesmic chat...

  1. Hey, you should try my solution to the social web - get yourself some kids.

Then you have no time for social networking - its all spent at the zoo and playgrounds :-)

  2. LOL, Steve. I have two... we gave the second one a middle name that, translated, means "cuts into my blogging time".

  3. Rob, LOL re kid name. Reminds me of a (possibly lame) post that I wrote 4 years ago:

    http://www.readwriteweb.com/archives/suggested_baby.php

Suggested baby names for bloggers! That was the time before 'professional blogging' :-)

  4. Me and some co-workers were at a new media training and one of them said you know it's really bad when you bring your computer to the bathroom. We were just training. Little did I know. Very funny post.

  5. It's called variable intermittent reinforcement, and is possibly the best way to train humans and animals.

  7. @Carey, thanks for that term. Personally, I consider it half explanatory variable, half diagnosis.

@factoryjoe and @Kaitlin, we may have identified a seriously underserved online demographic. I foresee a marketing partnership...

And @Richard, I damn near died when I read your post. Sadly, we couldn't quite bring ourselves to name the kids "Dot" and "Colm"...

  8. Some day, someone will snap a picture of my "office." It will look a LOT like that picture, only I have a goatee.

  9. So, guess where I was when I saw this.
