Data.gov Captchas Get Political

Written by Richard MacManus / December 20, 2009 12:31 AM / 9 Comments

Spotted this evening on the U.S. government's public data web site, Data.gov. A Republican programmer at captcha provider reCAPTCHA having some fun?

Hat-tip ReadWriteWeb's Marketing manager Elyssa Pallai, who stumbled upon this humor gem today.

  4. I think the captcha system there is doing something odd with it's word selection recently. I was filling out one on Dvorak.org and it came up with something like "Grouch" and "Crank" for the words. It's almost like it's picking them off of keywords for the website it's on.

I had a screen shot of the thing because I thought it was interesting but I cant' find it.

  7. recaptcha words are taken from books they are trying to digitize. It doesn't surprise me that words like these might co-occur in the same work.

  9. @Josh Miller: I would've thought that Dvorak's captcha would be more along the lines of "what spam?"
