Day 5 - and I am updating my novel online now

Written by Richard MacManus / November 5, 2003 11:42 PM / 4 Comments

I've decided to go the whole hog and post my novel online. There are a variety of reasons for this. One is that posting excerpts would mean it would be read out of context. If I'm prepared to post excerpts, I may as well just tell the whole story. Oh and another reason is that Erik Benson dared me to :-)

So here it is, all 10,035 words so far. Remember if you do read some of this (and I certainly am not expecting you to), there have been no revisions and I haven't fixed up the spelling or grammar mistakes. It's a first draft, with all the ugliness expected of first drafts. And it ain't Hemingway, but what the hey...

  1. Good choice, Richard. I'm into chapter two and having fun reading it. I was thinking that I get motivated knowing I'm writing for the *world* - it that motivates you, maybe publishing as you go along will add some energy to your effort and keep you going. You are committed now! Right now, when I log into Safari, I go to your page first to see how it's going.

  2. OK. I read it. Seems awfully well-written for a rush job. Now I'm waiting for the next update. I think it's Chapter 17 plus... This is fun! Hope you are enjoying it too and that your family is supportive even though it may be difficult at times.

  3. Thanks for the feedback! I am enjoying it, but it is actually a lot of work. Now that I'm at 20%, it seems like I'm making progress which is good.

  4. Hi Richard, found you in the comments box over at AndrewSW. Have just copied and pasted Part 1 of your novel into my email drafts folder (find things easier to read that way) and titled it: READ TONIGHT RICHARDS PART 1 NOVEL. My ISP package is 8am - 6pm (I'm on dial up narrowband - can't get broadband in this small seaside town), so in order that I don't get too tempted to clock up too many hours surfing outside of my prepaid package, I drag in a whole load of reading material for each evening. I guess I can go home now and switch off - that's more than enough to keep me going I'm sure!
