Google Scoops Up Del.icio.us Founder

Written by Marshall Kirkpatrick / January 12, 2009 3:01 PM / 12 Comments

News just broke that Google has hired Joshua Schachter, the founder of social bookmarking service Delicious. Schachter left Yahoo! six months ago, two and a half years after it acquired his groundbreaking app. We're excited to see what he does at Google.

schacter05.jpgSchachter was working on some sort of secret project and worked with Upcoming.org co-founder Andy Baio, also rich and free years after a Yahoo! acquisition of his site, on one of the coolest Greasemonkey scripts we've ever seen.

  2. Wow. It's really a small world, when it comes to the technology industry isn't it? It will be interesting to see what he brings to the table at Google. I'll be keeping my eye on this one.

  5. absolutely is ... Delicious gets a bit of heat now mainly because Yahoo didn't change it enough in update but that's because Joshua did such a great job setting it up. Who implemented tagging properly before Delicious did? Cannot wait to see the fit - go Joshua!

  11. I love my Google Bookmarks. With the excellent Firefox extension GMarks, it works well for me. I'd love to see it made more robust with tagging, nesting, and perhaps incorporating recommendations in a non-invasive way.

Perhaps Schachter's arrival will speed up the development of some of these things?
