On the third anniversary of Hurricane Katrina, we watch as Hurricane Gustav once again batters the Gulf Shore. Today, many of us are glued to both the TV and the web to keep track of the ongoing coverage of the storm. Beyond just traditional media outlets, there are also a number of other resources on the social web that you can use to keep up-to-date with Gustav news. Social networks, blogs, live news video, and, of course, Twitter, are all being used for up-the-minute coverage. In fact, Twitter even had a breakthrough moment on CNN as reporter Rick Sanchez referred to it on air and used it to gather news.
Here on RWW, we've pulled together a huge list of Hurricane Gustav links for your reference. Below you'll find links to weather sites, mobile web sites, links to various news and governmental sites, links to social web sites, and links to those using Twitter to report the storm.

Hi Sarah - just wanted to let you know that NewsCred had a dedicated Hurricane Gustav page with news articles, pictures, Twitter buzz and more. Perhaps you can add to your links? http://www.newscred.com/hurricane-gustav
Cheers,
Shafqat
also reporting via twitter as well as flickr pics (gospelportal)
Hubdub has a number of markets tracking the storm as well: http://www.hubdub.com/tag/hurricane_gustav
Thanks for the Twitter tip.
Don't forget http://gustavbloggers.com/ -- They also blogged from downtown New Orleans during Katrina.
There's also Tropical Storm Risk at http://www.tropicalstormrisk.com/. Right now they're showing tracking for Gustav, Hanna and the yet-to-be-named AL09.
Thank you very much for this information.
There's also http://gustavtracker.appspot.com which has information to give to evacuees who only have access to cell phones. They can SMS a message that they need help or that they've found safety, and it will be posted to this site.
Don't forget WeatherBug.com's hurricane tracker at www.weatherbug.com and its live data and camera images from 1,500 weather stations along the Gulf Coast. CNN is using our data on air through our media partner WWL.TV in Louisianna to report on wind gusts, rain, etc.
Thanks Sarah,
Our Twitter account (www.twitter.com/hurricanealerts - or @hurricanealerts) posts regular National Hurricane Center Updates with a link to an excellent interactive map, along with a limited amount of news stories related to the current hurricane(s).
Our goal is to keep our followers informed without bombarding them with "conversational static" every 30 seconds. There are plenty of Twitter accounts that citizens can follow for a blow by blow account - we've made the decision that sometimes less is more.

Wunderground is great, a lil weather geeky but a lot of fun at times. One of it's coolest features is webcams... I'm going to see if any of the ones in LA are still online.
Sarah - Actually a friend just told me about this piece. (I know, I should read RWW every day :) GREAT list. With two more tropical systems out there, if we can continue this in the way it used to be done, potentially we can all help a lot of people. The LA DOT webcams make it look like a ghost town .... Amazing. Keep up the great stuff! Charlie
Great list of hurricane resources. My brother lives in Louisiana, and these will come in handy. I tweeted/twittered it at http://twitter.com/CathyWebSavvyPR.
thanks again!
