Pelotonics Integrates Evernote into Project Management

Written by Marshall Kirkpatrick / October 22, 2008 5:16 PM / 12 Comments

pelotonicslogo.jpgThree weeks ago we wrote about the release of the new Application Programming Interface (API) of sophisticated note taking system Evernote. We said we were excited to see what outside developers were going to do with it. Today we saw our first Evernote integration and it is awesome.

Group collaboration startup Pelotonics has turned Evernote into an easy way to load photos, voice messages, notes and other media into your project management system, including from a mobile device.

Pelotonics describes itself as a group collaboration system built with "an eye toward adding certain intuitive pieces of functionality that Basecamp did not and would not launch." We're not sure whether Basecamp might add Evernote functionality to its software, but after seeing what Pelotonics has done with it so far, that sure looks like it could be a good idea.

When we first reviewed Evernote, we said it didn't live up to its incredible promise. Despite our concerns, scores of other people love the powerful note taking system. Check out these usecase videos below to see what Pelotonics has done with it.

Does that look like something you might use? We suspect that for many people it may be. Here at ReadWriteWeb we try to use Basecamp as much as we can, though we regularly come back to simpler tools like email and IM. For organizations looking for more heavyweight web-based collaboration tools, this Pelotonics/Evernote combo might work great.

Now we're even more excited to see what else developers can do with the well-built Evernote API.

Disclosure: The author had a past consulting relationship with Pelotonics but has no ongoing financial interest in the company. We just wrote about this because it looks awesome.

  1. Hell yes. Man, if this is as good as it sounds...goodbye Basecamp it's been beautiful.

  2. Another great use of an already awesome product. As a part time CFO, this ability to quickly and efficiently communicate tasks or important notices to my employeees and my clients will provide immediate results. Of course, my kids might not be to happy, but the front yard will look great!

  3. I have been using evernote for a while now.

I comes in really handy in between meetings, when I do not have enough time to slow down and pencil out my thoughts.

    It really seems awesome!

  4. Marshall,

Thanks for the article and for previous Evernote coverage! We're very excited about the Pelotonics integration; this is exactly what we had in mind when we started designing the API. More great apps are coming soon.

Just a quick note: I'm glad to see you write that, "scores of other people love the powerful note taking system." We're actually approaching 500,000 Evernote users, so while "scores" is certainly accurate, "hundreds of thousands" is a bit more precise :).

  5. Good ideas typically get messy with integration of two different programs. This integration however is the complete opposite. The best of both worlds at your finger tips.

  6. I really like the thought that went into this program. I can't imagine an easier way to communicate my ideas and expectations with my co-workers and employees, I'm glad Pelotonics is here to imagine it for me. Great inovation guys!

  7. Nice to see Pelotonics taking the initiative to integrate other useful tools into their application.

Anxious to try out the Evernote integration first hand!

  8. I'm a long-time fan of Pelotonics and a former Evernote user (didn't reinstall when I upgraded computers). I'm psyched to see these two work together.

  9. I would be interesting to see if leveraging Pelotonics for Project Management use will be revolutionary or not (or at least beneficial) for Project Managers.

  10. Thanks to everyone for your comments. A huge thanks to Evernote for having such a great application and API. Our integration was easy and added tremendous value to both of our applications. I must admit, I use Pelotonics more now that I have Evernote as my "ubiquitous capture" element. I am living out those use case videos more and more every day.

That's all well and good, but I know that our users will come up with even better ways to use our systems together. I can't wait to hear about what our users are coming up with!

Thanks for a great post Marshall. You are my source for all things new and cool in tech.

  11. Hey guys, Pelotonics looks amazing-- I've been messing with Basecamp for a week now, and was about to pull the trigger on it, but someone told me to look here. The Evernote integration is the deciding factor for me. Will there be any chat functionality ala Campfire for Pelotonics?

question: If i have multiple people in the field with iphones, can they all upload to the same Evernote account? I'm hoping to use this in our biz ( av integration) and we've got project managers in the field all over the state.

    Looks amazing!

  12. Hi Craig,

Great questions and thanks for noticing what we are doing. The answer to your question on the Evernote account integration is that you can establish a corporate Evernote account that you can all interface with. This is a great idea and frankly something that I had not considered before. I love the idea. This way, you can have a reservoir of corporate knowledge from all of your employees that can be acted upon within the Pelotonics system. Thanks for the idea!

We are also planning an integration with Google Docs so stay tuned to that. It will make collaborating on documents much easier and more robust than any other offering out there today!

    Thanks!
