Last chance to vote for your favorite Personalized Homepage

Written by Richard MacManus / March 22, 2007 9:13 PM / 21 Comments

Our current poll asks which 'personalized homepage' do you use? After a false start, the current results are very interesting. Google Personalized Homepage is most popular with 31%, followed by two of the innovative startups - Pageflakes 21% and Netvibes 20%. Interesting that two of the bigcos are lagging - My Yahoo 6% and Live.com with a paltry 2%. Yourminis actually has slightly more votes right now than Live.com.

It's not too late to add your vote...final results will be tallied up tomorrow.

  1. I'm really surprised Protopage is not on your list.

I've been using Protopage.com as my personalized homepage for the last year and a half and I love it. For some reason Protopage just doesn't get the attention it should, and perhaps part of the reason for this is that it's based in Europe and not in the USA ?

  2. I voted for 'other'. I actually use Gmail as my homepage with a bunch of Greasemonkey scripts and FF extensions that let me integrate it with GReader and GCal and whatever is left out is generally handled by Imified.

  3. Churm, Netvibes, Webwag and (until recently) Pageflakes are also based in Europe. I just couldn't include everyone :)

  4. I voted 'other' because I use Google Reader for the feeds which is the vast majority of what I used a 'homepage' for. The rest appear as tabs (Gmail, Google Docs, my blog etc etc) or as Firefox add-ons (del.icio.us).

If I want the weather, time, search then I pop open a tab specific to that and away I go.
(actuallly, weather I look out the window and time I look at my watch)

I used to use Netvibes but I found it's RSS reader wasn't as good as Google's reader (I understand it's been upgraded since) and, as I've said, I discovered I was using my homepage as an RSS bucket.

  5. Netvibes is nice, just can't get used to Google. Plus the 0.5 seconds it takes to transition between tabs is just tooo much.

    ;-)

  6. I'm in love with Netvibes. The only reason I've never written a big roundup of these services was my personal bias towards Netvibes, which is the first site I open every day. Pageflakes and Yourminis are great products, too, but Netvibes always seemed to be one step ahead.

BTW, another one of my favorites is Daily Rotation, which focuses only on RSS feeds, but it's way faster than any competitor.

  7. I love pageflakes as from my point of view it is much better than the other start pages with its various advanced features (like share pages, flake export system etc).Specially for the flake export facility , Using this feature any one can easily export various module into his personal website and enrich the look and feel. And they are continuously releasing newer and newer features.

  9. There's nothing better than PageFlakes. I enourage everyone who voted for the others to give pageflakes a try. You won't be disappointed.

  10. Was an avid fan of Netvibes. But I must say Pageflakes convinced me to switch. Very stable product.

  11. I wasn't really into the whole personalized webpage thing until I was pointed to Pageflakes. That's the one that really stuck with me and now I'm a junkie that has it set to my homepage.

  12. Stumble across pageflakes from another friend. Has incorporated it into my daily routine, shared it with colleagues and friends. Good work by the PF team.

  15. I'm all Netvibes after not being able to fall in love with Google. Netvibes was my rebound and I'm sticking with her.

  16. I love pageflakes. because this was the best (It got best award at Seomoz web2.0 awards) and still it is the best. Any doubt? Use the sharing and publishing feature of Pageflakes or use .net flake to create your own domain. You'll be happy to use this service. Otherwise, kill me.

  17. As a user from China, I vote for Pageflakes. I've tried both these services from time to time. The most important things for me are: speed, reliability, localization, number of widgets. Pageflakes is doing better on speed and localization. I would love to see more localized content and widget to be integrated into the Chinese version.
