I'm pleased to announce the first network blog to launch under the Read/WriteWeb banner - last100. We have more network blogs launching soon, all with the aim of leveraging Read/WriteWeb's reputation for quality news and analysis about Web technology.
last100 will provide news, reviews and industry analysis on products and services related to the digital lifestyle, with a particular emphasis on how the Internet is being used throughout the home. The site is edited by Steve O'Hear, a London-based consultant and journalist. Steve also writes a blog for ZDNet called The Social Web and wrote and directed the Silicon Valley documentary In Search of the Valley.
Where does the name last100 come from? It refers to what industry insiders call the "last 100 feet" problem, which is the gap between the typical home's computer and its living-room TV set. While the digital living room is a primary focus of last100, the site will also cover other areas of the digital lifestyle (VoIP, portable media, mobile web etc).
The top article on our launch day is a full review of Joost, the much hyped online TV service from the founders of Skype. last100 is also currently running a poll asking: can Skype replace your landline?. Other news stories to whet your appetite: Amazon to challenge iTunes and Mozilla Labs working on making mobile browsing a snip.
So without further ado, check out last100 and tell us what you think. If you like it, feel free to subscribe.

Richard,
Congratulations on the RWW network. I noted (in fact, just noted at my own blog) that l100 is powered by WordPress. Is this excellent decision policy for the RWW network? Or will choice of blogging platform be made on a "best-for-this-blog" basis?

Congrats on the launch, and I'll buy you a drink next time I see you in a toast.

It would be great to build more into your content about the revenue models of these businesses. The first dot.com bubble was filled with great ideas that people invested millions in which could be build for a few 1000 in some kids garage. They could make one or two people a lot of money, but just don't make enough to justify the investments. If we know more about how these business make money, it would be quite helpful.

Thanks all for your comments. bradma, right now Steve and I are almost literally those people bootstrapping in the garage :-) There is no million-dollar investment in r/ww. Right now the revenue model is advertising. But as the R/WW network builds out, I have other plans to complement that (which I don't want to go into at this point).
