
Overall, requests from the iPod touch increased from 18 million in July 2008 to 292 million in December. While traffic from the iPod touch grew at a steady clip over the last few month, a good part of this growth came, not unsurprisingly, in the week after Christmas. After the iPhone (10%), the iPod touch (4.7% ) is now the second most popular mobile device on sites that run AdMob's advertising. Overall, iPhone requests grew 86% since November.

Just looking at the smartphone market, Apple also continues to solidify its dominance. In America, the iPhone now accounts for 48% of all traffic to Admob's network, which is more than RIM (19%), Palm (9%), and Windows Mobile (15%) combined.
As we pointed out last month, Apple has created a user-experience that makes its users want to use the mobile web on its devices. It is probably safe to assume that most iPod touch users could easily have used their desktops or laptops to access the web instead, but for quickly looking up the news or reading email, the instant-on experience of a phone is often preferable over the more fully featured desktop experience.

I have both iphone and HTC, iphone is cool, but HTC have more softwares.

iphone's dominance was basically the lack of touch screen in other phones. But as the technology evolves we shall see other brands come up and compete the reliability of iphone.
Apple 1st in market but Android will overtake it by years end, here come the handets, just wait and see.
This data is terribly skewed since few Blackberry apps use ads (and therefore admob) to make money.
I think there's a mistake being made by the usual desktop and laptop folks, who make a one to one comparison between "the experience" of a desktop/laptop with the iPhone et al. For the iPhone users here, including me, we're discovering that there is a lot of baggage in the boatanchor laptop/desktop "experience" that we can easily drop and do without, and easily evolve into the new way of doing things. Balmer should also be listening to this.
If I cared to unlock my iPhone I could probably sell off my desktop.
@Richard Apple should also listen to this, and free up the strangle hold on the development that they continue to have (which I personally think stifles creatively).
The recent DRM-free move is a step in the right direction and if they can "DRM-free" iphone/ipod touch development, they could become the leader for maybe the next 10 years! The could be the microsoft+dell of the mobile age!
Apple will be the leader for the next 25 years ... just like the previous 25.
The Apple would surely dominates the mobile web and maybe the entire web, the company have demonstrate to us some earth shocking technological innovations.
