Ski Lodge: Your Newest Ski Accessory Is Your iPhone
In the Northern Hemisphere, with holidays on the way and snow flying, we're in the midst of the ski and snowboard season. But we're also in the midst of something else awfully chilly: less than favorable economic conditions. That means, if you're going to spend money for a lift ticket, you want to make sure you're getting your money's worth.
Now, your iPhone might help you do just that. Meet Ski Lodge, a beautiful little app that will assist you in making the right decisions about where to go shushing down the slopes this winter.
Developed by David Watanabe of Inquisitor and NewsFire fame, Ski Lodge provides a veritable encyclopedia of conditions and information for skiers and snowboarders: snowfall for the last 24, 48, and 72 hours, current weather and temperature, high-res trail maps, live resort cams, phone numbers, and links to important resort information. You can also save resorts to favorites, so that all the latest Ski Lodge information will be available at a glance.
Not sure where to go? Ski Lodge uses the iPhone's GPS capabilities to help you out. If you're traveling and hit with the urge to careen downhill or if you're just looking to try some new runs, hit the "Nearby" button and Ski Lodge will provide suggestions.
Ski Lodge currently provides details on more than 380 ski resorts in North America. Watanabe has plans to add Europe, Australia, New Zealand, and South America in the near future.
If you want to try the app, you'll need the latest version of the iPhone software (2.2) and some cash. But at $4.99 US, the app is far cheaper than a lift ticket - and it could be your ticket to the best skiing in your area. To purchase and download, visit the App Store.
Now, if I could just figure out how to use my iPhone touchscreen while wearing these gloves.

I highly recommend Snow Reports — it's exactly what I want in an iPhone app, has a flawless user-centric interface, and it looks great.
If you won't miss some of it's competition's whiz-bang features — no GPS here and you'll get trail maps via links to each ski resort's site — this one is $1.99 well spent.
I think Snocator is $2, and has a GPS locator overlaid on trailmaps as well, so you won't get lost on backcountry trails.
