Thanks Sponsors & Readers

We interrupt this broadcast to thank our sponsors for supporting ReadWriteWeb. We have a great line-up of sponsors, all supporting RWW's mission to provide in-depth news and analysis about Web Technology.

Of course we're also thankful for a passionate and smart reader base - and top of our minds this year is to enhance the community aspects of RWW. We're aware that commenting here can be slow at times, but we are currently implementing improvements to the system which will make commenting on RWW much quicker and easier.

If you would like to enquire about sponsoring ReadWriteWeb and/or our network blogs last100, AltSearchEngines and ReadWriteTalk, please email the editor for a Media Kit.

Here are our current sponsors:

Etelos CRM for Google Apps is a Customer Relationship Management (CRM) application that leverages the Google Apps platform. There are four editions: Personal, Professional, Enterprise, and Developer.

Zoho is a leading Web Office suite, with one of the most comprehensive product ranges of all the online office suites.

Packt (pronounced Packed) is a book publisher that produces cutting-edge books for developers, administrators, and newbies alike. Currently you can get free Open Source book samples.

Userplane is a provider of communication software for online communities. As well as instant messaging, Webmessenger 2 has a Presence system that allows sites to display and leverage online user presence anywhere.

Hakia is a leading semantic search engine and recently released Meet Others, a social networking feature where you can meet people searching for the same topics as you.

Quintura uses advanced visualization and semantic technologies to enhance the search engine user experience.

Wild Apricot offers Membership Database Management Software for non-profits and associations.

Pageflakes is a leading Start Page which features "Pagecasts", allowing users to share their Pageflakes pages with the public or a specific group of users.

Eurekster is a search engine that learns from the community's search behavior, so it gets better the more you use it.

MediaTemple provides hosting for RWW and was a huge help in our recent re-design launch - they went out of their way to help us in what proved to be a tricky re-launch. Also thanks to SixApart for our publishing software MT4 and for their continued support of RWW.

  • You know this drives me nuts. Anyone reading this post knows that these links are to sponsor sites. There is no context in which those links can not be taken to reference websites belonging to companies who sponsor RRW (which would generally denote a transaction of some description).

So why are you saying 'we dont trust these links'. After all, that's why Google came up with NOFOLLOW - to eradicate comment spam.

I'm sure your sponsors didn't pay you to link to them in this post, and you had full editorial control over the content, so I just cannot understand why they're NOFOLLOWed. Surely one thank you post a year with clean links isn't going to upset the Google gods? Would you allow sponsors whom you thought were unfit for your readers? I doubt it. I'm sure they're all reputable companies.

Why not take a stand against this Google hypocrisy?

Yes I know the answer to my own questions. It is more a rant than a query. Apologies if it sounds crass.

But where does this all stop? NOFOLLOW by default?

On a positive note - well done on a great site :)

  • Er, nice rant Richard ;-) But tbh I'd get more flack if I *didn't* use nofollow.
