Yahoo Plumber Becomes Chief Technologist

Yahoo application platform leader Sam Pullara has been appointed Chief Technologist, the company announced internally yesterday. Pullara has been responsible for the widely loved Yahoo Pipes and the next generation Yahoo Query Language, sometimes referred to as "Pipes for the command line."

Pullara is a leader in Yahoo's work on Open Web standards and the open web community appears enthusiastic about his promotion at Yahoo! For full coverage of the move, see our write up on Jobwire, ReadWriteWeb's blog covering new hires in tech and new media.

This is a good move on Yahoo's part. I hope it will serve to elevate the profile of Yahoo Pipes. Most people still don't know about Pipes even though it's been around for a couple years now. Pipes is one of the greatest ideas ever, but has not taken off yet the way it deserves to. Part of that is because of its complex interface options and lack of documentation. Maybe this is about to change?

Good for SAM. I have been a big user for Yahoo Pipes. I only wish it was made more user-friendly and 'finished and marketed' better by Yahoo!
