Network Roulette: Chatroulette for Professional Networking

Have you ever sat in front of your computer playing Chatroulette and found yourself thinking, "Man, this is disgusting. I should really go that networking event downtown"?

Well, now you don't have to choose, thanks to Brazen Careerist, a social networking site for professionals, which just launched a new service called Network Roulette.

As it's name might suggest, Network Roulette randomly connects professionals with each other over the Internet for the purpose of networking. When you start out, it asks you a few basic questions about your career and what you're interested in. From there, it works quite like Chatroulette, but doesn't utilize the Web cam and isn't chock-full of graphic obscenity.

While a tool like this could never replace the experience meeting somebody in person, it does have an interesting potential to connect professionals regardless of their geographic location.

In our initial testing, it didn't seem like there were many people yet using the brand new service and the connections it made were largely irrelevant to the professional criteria we entered. That said, the site was only unveiled yesterday, so it's understandable that only a handful of users would be on it at a given time.

What do you think of this idea? Would you use a service like Network Roulette to make new professional connections? Let us know in the comments.
