CollectiveX Gets Axed, Rebrands as Groupsite.com

groupsite-logo-white.gifAs of now, the brand of custom social network service CollectiveX is no more, and the "social collaboration communities" of Groupsite.com have taken its place. Obvious names for social web platforms may not be all the rage (Ning, anyone?), but a move to Groupsite/s will definitely be a boon for communicating what the service is all about.

The free public or private social networks, with the pro package for enterprises, will remain essentially the same, just with a new identity wrapped around it. CollectiveX networks previously hosted as subdomains should already be migrated to the new Groupsite.com

Why is CollectiveX No More?

Collectivex-logo-1.jpg CollectiveX started offering public or private groupware in 2007, and dubbed the SaaS package "groupsites" individually. But there was always some muddied waters when considering whether it was social networks from CollectiveX, CollectiveX group sites, or CollectiveX's groupsites. In short, things were a tad confused in the brand department.

Thus, the company has dropped its original name in favor of taking up the name it gave to its product, one that more quickly communicates what the startup is all about.

Will Groupsite.com Make An Impact?

In a word, yes.

A more complementary brand for the service should likely increase its ability to compete with other players in the realm of private social networks, such as Ning. An identity that just makes intuitive sense is nothing to sneeze at, and can have a lasting impression.

  1. I'm one of a handful of founding members of a professional networking group that was started last fall. At that time, LinkedIn did not have discussion forums for their groups, nor the capability to add calendar events. The only "known" platforms for group interaction were Yahoo or Google. Neither of these offered the functionality we wanted (a) a shared group calendar, (b) RSVP functionality (c) structured group discussions. To be very blunt, Yahoo groups are ***SO*** 1990's... I reached out within LinkedIn for suggestions on other groupsite platforms, and was very glad to have been pointed toward CollectiveX. We have been complemented several times by new members on the fantastic functionality that this platform (now Groupsite) offers us for virtual interaction to supplement our face-to-face meetings. Groupsite is THE place to be.
