Kompass Will Take Basecamp Mobile For the First Time

Kompass for Basecamp.jpgTake note Basecamp users, a universal mobile app for your favorite project management tool is seeking beta testers as of today. If all goes according to plan, Bryte Software's Kompass will hit it out of the ballpark with support for BlackBerry, iPhone, Windows Mobile & Android.

ReadWriteWeb has used Basecamp for some time now, and we've definitely lamented the utter lack of mobile access. For one of the top group productivity tools on the market, its exclusive use of the browser is something of a travesty.

Not to say that there aren't hurdles to taking Basecamp on to smartphones.

Converting a collaborative, project-based tool in to something easily accessible from the user-centric environment of a mobile device presents something of a challenge to any developer. Here's hoping that Kompass can transcend those challenges in its attempt to take Basecamp fully mobile for the first time.

  1. "ReadWriteWeb has happily used for Basecamp for some time now"

    Something sounds odd there.

  2. Your headline, 'Kompass Will Take Basecamp Mobile For the First Time' is completely inaccurate.

There are at least 7 Basecamp apps available for the iPhone some of which have been available since 2008 (Outpost, Encamp, Basetent, Groundwork, Projects, Mother Camp, MiniVan).

Also, you call Kompass an app but their website calls it a portal and shows an iphone displaying a website open in mobile safari suggesting that they're just making a mobile formatted web version of Basecamp.

Please clarify what you mean. Is this an app or a web service? Even if you mean that Kompass will be the first cross device mobile version of Basecamp your headline is still wrong as it is not the first.
