The Blackberry outage that RIM does not want to talk about continues to affect people on both sides of the Atlantic with outages reported in the United States, Canada and the United Kingdom. Some people have been without service for more than 24 hours.
The outage is a peculiar one, Data Outage News reports:
"Again, this is affecting devices on all North American carriers, BIS and BES, and it appears to be only devices on WiFi, wherein data works "sometimes" when connected via WiFi; no data when WiFi is disconnected."
RIM has not yet made a statement about the outage and we have to believe that this is not a smart way to handle an issue that has customers wondering if it their phone that is causing the problem.
T-Mobile has been keeping its Twitter account updated for customers affected by the outage.

We posted yesterday about the news. It was difficult to get a read on the extent of the outage but by this morning commenters were reporting a number of problems.
On Monday, Simon Benson in the United Kingdom said:
Seems to be affecting the UK as well! We've been out since around noon GMT on Sunday! Bit difficult remote working without access to email...
Some are considering dropping the Blackberry. Danielle Ricks posted:
"I've had MAJOR problems with my T-Mobile Blackberry 8900 for the past 12 hours!!! What is most disturbing is the fact that the T-Mobile techs didn't even know there was a problem. I spent a half hour doing trouble shooting with them... after doing my OWN trouble shooting... just to FINALLY find this post telling me we ONCE AGAIN have a nationwide Blackberry outage.I'm on my way to SXSW and I HAVE to get my emails. I LOVE T-Mobile customer service but if the Smartphone doesn't work it won't do me a whole lot of good. I've been a loyal Blackberry customer but this is my third RIM outage and I'm done! Thank you ReadWriteWeb for being on top of things *calling AT&T to inquire about an iPhone*"
The outage can't be helping RIM right now. How many outages can users face when there are an increasing number of alternatives to their service?
We'll update the blog when we have an update about the service being restored.

"Some people have not been without service for more than 24 hours."
"...have been without..."
People whose business life is critically centered around access to their smartphone should own two such phones, like a Blackberry and an iPhone, for instance (granted, not all smartphones are supported in all enterprises).
Perhaps to add insult to injury, when my BB 9630 came back on the air, the first thing that popped up was an icon to update "Blackberry World," the online application catalog. It locked up the device requiring me to pull the battery to reboot. Ain't technology grand?
If Blackberry users are losing business because they depend on their mobile devices, their problem ISN'T a Blackberry/RIM/Carrier problem!!
Our Blackberries are all working fine here in California.
Can't say I've seen any problems with my BB here in the UK, both wifi and O2 EDGE have been working fine.
I have been experiencing problems since yesterday. The mail is arriving but 3 - 5 hours late. Called T-Mobile to day and all they could/would say is there is a global outage affecting my region (Florida). No information on fix.
I have had this issue since 4pm yesterday (east coast). No data on 3G and wifi giving me issues. I called AT&T and they couldn't help. Went into an AT&T store and they replaced my SIM card and that FIXED the issue. Worth a try for all you frustrated folks!
I have had no data services on my Curve 8900 (Tmobile) since the AM of 3/8/10... and I'm located in San Diego.
what is more perplexing about the internet issue is that i am still able to tether my blackberry and use my phone as a modem. Dont give up on blackberry, i know this seems to be a huge hassle, but we will survive. hey, i'm still calm and i'm ONE day away from being a father for the first time and was planning on using my phone to notify people...
I am in indonesia and my BIS in my blackberry handheld are working well.guess it's only happen in america then. :-)
Tampa Bay area and I had an issue for all of an hour late at night. But nothing big. No issues at all today.
I'm in NYC and have been using BBM and internet all last night and today with people on both T-Mobile and Verizon without any problems. I have Sprint. Seems like there's no sense to this apparent outage.
I was given 2 option, both were the exact same add on but I could either pay £7.50 a month for BIS which i could cancel at any time or £5 for BIS which I would have to have for a minimum of 12 months before I have the choice to remove it from my contract.

Wow! You have a big day ahead of you. Let us know!
"Some people have not been without service for more than 24 hours."
I'm in the uk and have spent most of yesterday using my bb and replying to emails.......
This outage issue sounds like a carrier issue not a rim issue.
As for all the people complaining and blaming rim - since there doesn't seem to actually be an outage, that might be why they haven't mentioned it. Sounds like mobile carriers blaming the supplier - in the uk O2 had a problmne with iphone coverage and speeds, blanmed apple and then had to admit they didn't have the infrastructure to cope with the iphone data traffic, apple were blameless
I have the BB Storm from Verizon, and since have not any problems with this alleged blackout. I've been using my phone regularly. What is this problem specifically & why is it such a problem in certain regions? Thank goodness it isn't a burden to me. PS I am writing this on my phone as we speak.
This is affecting Vodafone users in the UK!!
No issues in the Mid-South USA on AT&T, Metro Memphis area with both Verizon and AT&T devices also not seeing any issues. I support over 4000 corp. users (yes BES, not BIS)and none of them seem affected. Although last week there were some unexplained gaps in many mailboxes, no one is reported continued lack of service. Have also seen for the past 2-3 weeks, that the active carrier on my user's devices labeled as verizon NL when viewed from the Server via BB manager. These devices are physically in the US but show as having a Netherlands Verizon carrier signal. Looks somewhat fishy to me...
having problems for one week in mexico, and still going...they say, no news on when this will get fixed
Looks like BlackBerry is having a hard time managing their growth. Isn't this their 3 or 4 outage in the last year.
The big giveaway about Blackberries? All my buddies have kids that are in their mid-teens. Guess which way the majority of them are switching? Yes, that’s right, from iPhone to Blackberry. This is apparently because of the ease of MMS, and the fact that the iPhone is seen as passe, and something of a fad. By these 14 year-old kids.

Boston - have been having major e-mail outages for several weeks. No e-mails come in for 8+ hours, then come in around 1:30 a.m. Verizon Wireless won't admit to any problems. Our law firm is having serious problems with communications. I'm ready to chuck this piece of tech junk.
