10 Questions to Ask When Crafting Your Mobile Policy

Constellation Research Group's Maribel Lopez has written a two part essay on drafting a mobile policy for your enterprise.

Why create a mobile policy? "It forces you to consider the various security, support and cost containment issues associated with making mobile work," she writes. "It also gives IT a great hook into business units and understanding how IT can create strategic value by mobilizing business processes."

In the first half, she explains the major issues facing enterprise mobility decision makers. In the second half she offers ten questions managers need to ask when crafting a mobile policy. One of the key questions is how much support IT will provide - many of the other questions stem from the answer to that question.

The questions Lobez suggests are:

  1. Who is eligible?
  2. What data and services can be accessed?
  3. How will apps and services be delivered?
  4. What does the company pay for?
  5. Which operating systems and devices?
  6. How is the device secured?
  7. How is the device managed?
  8. What support is provided?
  9. What are the privacy issues?
  10. What are the legal concerns?
