Textkey Has a New Two-Factor Phone Solution
By now the use of phones as the second factor in a security solution is well known and there are any number of vendors operating in this space. Even Google and Facebook have added this to their services, as we wrote about earlier this summer.
Today a new vendor announced its solution, and it is a bit different from what we've seen previously. For most of these apps, you get sent a code via SMS to your phone that you have to key in on the Web page of the bank or other vendor that you are trying to authenticate with.
It works in reverse of the other apps: you go to their site, and register your phone number for your credential. Then Textkey brings up a screen on their website with the code - you then enter it on your phone and send a text message back to Textkey HQ to authenticate yourself. It is a clever approach.
You can try the service out yourself by going to the Textkey demo site. The service costs $25 per year per user and while they haven't yet gotten any paying customers, many are giving it consideration.
