Jaspersoft, vendors of the open core business intelligence application of the same name, today announced new reporting tools designed to handle big data. It's adding more than a dozen connectors for databases such as Cassandra, Hadoop and Netezza. The connectors will enable people to use Jaspersofts' native syntax to query big data sources. This is a big step forward for Jaspersoft users wanting to work with big data, and should make Jaspersoft an attractive option for organizations looking for an off-the-shelf big data BI tool. The connectors are available from Jaspersoft's open source site.
Last week we took a look at several business analytics related predictions from analysts from Forrester and Gartner. This year's analytics product announcements are off to an interesting start, even if they're not confirming those predictions yet. The main trend we see in the three announcements we're covering this week is integration. Oracle is announcing a new module for integrating with SAP, RJMetrics is integrating with MongoDB and Jaspersoft is setting itself up for easier integrations.
Drupal's founder is calling for open source in the enterprise and in the cloud. This should be no surprise, coming from someone like Dries Buytaert. But it is still interesting, considering the source and the point he makes about the actual lack of open source in cloud computing.
Drupal is one of the most popular, open source content management systems. Buytaert created it initially as a messaging board. It went open-source in 2001.
