Today, Usablenet has launched Usablenet Mobile 2.0, an HTML5 mobile platform targeted towards brands. The new platform brings a rich app-like user experience, says the company, while also allowing its customers to leverage HTML5 technology in order to build cross-device solutions. Currently the platform supports all major mobile operating systems, including iOS, Android, BlackBerry, Nokia and Windows.
Usablenet 2.0's features, designed with e-commerce and brands in mind, include the following:
In short, what this means is that Usablenet is providing brands with tools to build HTML5 based sites that perform much like native apps. End users can swipe through photo galleries, tap to zoom in on high-resolution images, take advantage of GPS-based location features, and generally navigate through the online experience in a way to which they're accustomed to.
The platform also outputs to both HTML5 and HTML4 in order to offer support for older mobile browsers without HTML5 capabilities.
Usablenet, the company behind this new mobile toolkit, was recognized by ABI Research as the number one mobile commerce platform earlier this year. Usablenet clients represent 20% of the Fortune 1000 and also 6 out of the top 10 retailers in the U.K. Its current partners include big brand names like Amtrak, American Airlines, Estée Lauder, Fed Ex, Hilton, JCPenney, JetBlue, Marks & Spencer, Sprint and others. It's main value proposition in mobile is that it can offers brands the ability to expand into mobile with little impact to I.T. resources, specifically no data feeds, system integration or re-coding of the customer's website.
More details on the Usablenet platform are available here on the company's homepage.
