Apple announced today that Mark Papermaster, a former high-ranking executive at IBM, will be Senior Vice President of Devices Hardware Engineering for the company.
With 25 years of product and technology experience, Papermaster will head Apple's iPod® and iPhone™ hardware engineering teams.
This is a contentious hire for Apple; IBM filed suit against Papermaster on Oct. 22nd. As the once Vice President of Microprocessor Technology Development, IBM alleges Papermaster had been privy to company's intellectual property and trade secrets and doesn't want information about its power chips and server products going to Apple. Papermaster also signed a non-compete agreement in 2006, barring him from work with a competitor for at least one year following termination of work with IBM.
Money, time and lawyers will tell whether or not Apple gets to keep its latest pick.
