Slate_logo.jpgAt 5:59pm Eastern Time today, the online magazine Slate published the first of what will be bi-weekly columns authored by former New York governor Eliot Spitzer. Spitzer will write his column on financial matters. He will be paid on a freelance basis.

According to Editor in Chief Jacob Weisberg, Spitzer is "a natural writer, which is, I have to say, among ex-politicians something you're not expecting to find".

One interesting side note is offered by The New York Times; "Slate helped jump-start a new career in online journalism for Henry Blodget, the former Merrill Lynch securities analyst, who faced (and letter settled) charges of securities fraud after Mr. Spitzer, as attorney general, published e-mail messages in which Mr. Blodget disparaged stocks he had positively assessed in public. Mr. Blodget, who now runs Silicon Alley Insider, has been banned from the securities industry for life."

The Slate Group includes the online publications Slate, The Root and The Big Money and is a unit of The Washington Post Company.
