The White House Names New Media Director

Written by Doug Coleman / January 20, 2009 7:17 PM / 3 Comments

USPres_logo.jpgThe WhiteHouse.gov website saw major improvements today thanks to the efforts of Macon Phillips, The White House's newly appointed New Media Director. One minute after the inauguration, Phillips posted an entry entitled "Change has come to WhiteHouse.gov" and introduced himself as one of several people who will blog on the site. In the post he says, "our initial new media efforts will center around three priorities: communication, transparency and participation".

On his LinkedIn profile, Phillips currently lists himself as Director of Strategy & Communications at Blue State Digital. It is not clear if he will continue in this role. He was part of the Obama Transition New Media Team which has been responsible for the recent upgrades to Obama-Biden Transition website Change.gov. Although his updates are protected, you can find Macon Phillips on Twitter.

Earlier today, gadget blog Gizmodo took an interesting look at The White House website today versus when George W. first took office in 2001.

  1. I guess I kind of expected that the "New Media" Director would have more than 1 recommendation on his LinkedIn profile. But, perhaps that 1 recommendation comes from Obama himself...

  2. What's even more interesting is that Joe Rospars, the New Media Director for Obama for America (who also happens to be the founder of Blue State Media), doesn't seem to have a role in the administration.

  3. Re: Unsolicited emails from Axelrod

This email does not give you permission to save my personal information or email..I would like an answer to my question though,if you have time.

Why can't anyone in the Obama administration just accept blame for a mistake? Why does a person like you say, about what is obviously a mistake on the adminsitrations part, that its the work of your enemies ???

Do you think we are stupid ? You are a smart man, don't let yourself be smeared in all this, try to keep your integrity.

Even my friends who believe it was an honest mistake (a small number now) are cringing at the way the administration always has to cry and whine about "its not our fault, its the other guys , the mean ones"

I think you are all living in a bubble if you don't realize how completly off the mark you are .. people are getting fed up, even those who support your policies. Can't you act like grown ups instead of brats ?
