The White House, OBM and DC officials will not confirm it, but there is much speculation that President Obama will choose Vivek Kundra to be The United States first ever Chief Technology Officer. According to Nextgov's Gautham Nagesh, Kundra "will replace Karen Evans as administrator for e-government and information technology in the Office of Management and Budget. The position effectively serves as the federal government's chief information officer".
Kundra is District of Columbia's Chief Technology Officer and in that role he has "deployed advanced applications to improve the performance of public services".
It is not even clear yet what roles and responsibilities the US CTO would have, and while many have claimed to have confirmed this appointment, there has been no formal announcement. Stay tuned.
