Kara Swisher reports today on her BoomTown blog that Zimbra founder and former Yahoo! executive Satish Dharmaraj will become a partner at Sand Hill Road venture capital firm Redpoint Ventures. This is not entirely unexpected news. Dharmaraj went to work for the firm shortly after his Open Source email start-up Zimbra was purchased by Yahoo! for $350 million in late 2007.
According to Swisher, Dharmaraj will focus on business software, the enterprise arena and infrastructure in his new role at Redpoint. He was a key player in Yahoo!'s efforts to bolster its communications properties and joins former company executives David Goldberg, Andrew Braccia and new LinkedIn President Jeff Weiner, who have all joined VC firms in the last year.
