Bit.ly, probably the most heavy-weight alternative to TinyURL available, has hired Rex Dixon as its first Community Manager. We reviewed Bit.ly's powerful link shortening service in July.
It will soon be 9 months since the service launched and we haven't seen its API leveraged to its full potential at all yet, but we have high hopes. The addition of Dixon as Community Manager could be a big help in that.
Dixon is one of the scrappiest professionals in social media. His resume includes stints as Co-Founder/Publisher Relations at Lookery, Director of Social Media Content at Lending Club and Tech Evangelist at Criteo among other positions. When the book gets written about former rock musicians from the Midwestern US building high-tech careers with their bare hands out of what's called Web 2.0 - Rex Dixon will feature prominently in that book.
Congratulations Rex and Bit.ly.

Marshall,
Thank you for the coverage! I hope to put my past experience at rallying a community in full support of the cool things this company has to offer.
Rex
Gonna be a bit of a bummer to lose even part of your time to Bit.ly over at SiliconANGLE, but glad to hear things are going well for you.
