Microsoft Exec Hired by Dept. of Homeland Security to Secure Govt. Networks

Written by Doug Coleman / March 11, 2009 8:01 PM / 0 Comments

USHomelandSecurity_logo.jpgIn perhaps the most ironic US government new hire so far this year, the US Department of Homeland Security has appointed Microsoft chief security strategist Philip Reitinger to help secure the government's computer networks. His official title is Deputy Undersecretary of Department's National Protections Program Directorate (NPPD) and he will also work with the private sector to protect systems from domestic and foreign threats.

Reitinger is a current member of the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) National Advisory Council and "advises the FEMA administrator on aspects of cyber security related to emergency management". Prior to joining Microsoft in 2003, he was the Executive Director of the Department of Defense's Cyber Crime Center (DC3).
