Twitter_logo.jpgUPDATE: We first reported this hiring on March 13th. It makes sense that we show you the Twitter Blog post that announces it officially. You can read that post here.

Owen Thomas reported on Valleywag that Google's Visual Design Lead Doug Bowman has decided to jump ship and join social messaging superstartup Twitter. Bowman is an industry veteran who "pioneered Web design at Wired" and when he was hired by Google in 2006, was touted as the company's "best acquisition to date" by influential 37Signals founder Jason Fried.

While working at Wired in 1998, Bowman founded Stopdesign, a small design consultancy in San Francisco. When he was there he designed sites and applications for Google, Capgemini, Blogger, Cathay Pacific Airways, Adaptive Path, and Mighty Goods. He stopped doing work for Stopdesign in 2006 to join Google as its Visual design Lead. Be sure to read more about him on his personal blog, Stopdesign.
