Major news and media outlets are paying attention to Twitter. They are starting to realize what many of us know already, that news stories often break first on Twitter. United Kingdom's Sky News announced that it has appointed Online Producer Ruth Barnett to scour the hugely popular microblog for breaking news as its first ever "Twitter Correspondent". It is believed that this is the first such appointment by a 24-hour TV news channel.
