We were not alone early last month when we reported that Washington DC Chief Technology Officer Vivek Kundra was going to be the United States' first ever CTO. Today The Washington Post reports that Kundra will be the country's first ever Chief Information Officer "according to two administration officials".
In this newly-created position, Kundra will "oversee how government agencies purchase and use information technology and will be in charge of all federal technology spending. He also will be responsible for making sure agencies' networks and systems work together and share information while maintaining security and privacy standards".

Late last year, while Kundra was District of Columbia's CTO he "decided to switch the District's 38,000 employees from the installed Microsoft Office suite to the Web-based Google suite."
