Dr. Larry Brilliant to Lead Skoll Urgent Threats Fund

SkollFoundation_logo.jpgJeff Skoll, the founding president of eBay and founder and chairman of The Skoll Foundation and Participant Media announced today that he has hired Dr. Larry Brilliant to be the President of a new organization he is launching "to address urgent threats confronting humanity and the planet" called the Skoll Urgent Threats Fund. Dr. Brilliant was most recently Chief Philanthropy Evangelist for Google.

"Dr. Lawrence "Larry" Brilliant is an American physician, epidemiologist, technologist, author and philanthropist, and the former director of Google's philanthropic arm Google.org. Brilliant, a technology patent holder, has been CEO of two public companies and other venture backed start ups. From 1973 to 1976 he participated in the successful World Health Organization (WHO) smallpox eradication program."

In a recent Twitter update Brilliant says he is, "leaving Google with gratitude and love, moving to Skoll with great hope and excitement".
