Give Your Twitter Page More Personality with Bubble Tweet

As far as we can tell, Kevin Sherman (BubbleGuru on Twitter) must have loved Pop-Up Video back in the 90's, because he has no less than five different video-in-a-bubble services that you can try out. His highest-profile service, Bubble Tweet, starts with a simple redirect URL that takes you to someone's Twitter page. Almost immediately, a small round bubble appears and starts playing a short video starring the profile's owner. Simple, to the point, fun, and free!
To get started with Bubble Tweet, you don't have to register. Just enter a Twitter account name and record or upload a short video. That's it! You will get a custom Bubble Tweet URL that will show you your recording overlaid on the specified Twitter account. A count is kept for how many visits each Bubble Tweet URL gets. Plus, you can create up to three Bubble Tweet videos a day.
Although at first blush this may seem like a cute little toy that you may try once and then forget about (and in fact, it seems most of the folks who have recorded a video have indeed done that), we think that at the very least it adds a face behind the Twitter account. How many times have you visited someone's Twitter and wondered, is that a person or an ad agency or a robot behind that login? Now you have 30 seconds to shine for your viewer. With a bit of creativity, you could use this free service to answer a weekly question, do a quick movie review, spin in place, or even use it to get people to visit your comedy tour like Dane Cook.
Kevin has taken his bubble-video technology and applied it to a number of different online activities, such as electronic greeting cards (Bubble Joy), enhancing any web site (Bubble Comment), and answering questions (Bubble Guru). In real entrepreneurial form, Kevin isn't sitting still with his goal to get the web wired up with short-form videos.
He's even made a StumbleUpon-style random BubbleTweet page where you can just sit back and watch the bubbles one after another. Good stuff.

I'm not a big fan of this one. But it is pretty wild to see how Twitter pages are beginning to morph.

Beim Prozess gegen die birmanische Friedensnobelpreisträgerin Aung San Suu Kyi hat die Militärjunta überraschend ausländische Diplomaten zugelassen. Mehr als zwei Dutzend verfolgten das Verfahren im Insein-Gefängnis in Rangun. "Sie ist gefasst, aufrecht und knistert vor Energie", sagte der britische Botschafter Mark Canning anschließend der BBC. Die Diplomaten waren abgesehen von einem UN-Gesandten die ersten Ausländer, die die 63-Jährige seit 2003 zu Gesicht bekamen. Sie steht seitdem unter Hausarrest und darf keinen Besuch empfangen.
Die Oppositionsführerin ist angeklagt, weil ein Amerikaner vor gut zwei Wochen in ihr Haus eindrang. Damit habe sie die Auflagen ihres Hausarrests verletzt, werfen die Behörden ihr vor. Juristen in aller Welt bezeichnen dies nach allen üblichen Rechtsstandards als völlig unhaltbar. Sie halten die Anklage für ein abgekartetes Spiel, um die Politikerin vor den geplanten Wahlen im kommenden Jahr aus dem Verkehr zu ziehen. Ihr Hausarrest wäre Ende Mai abgelaufen.

So äußerte sich auch Canning: "Es war gut, dass wir dabei sein konnten, aber das ändert nichts an den Grundtatsachen", sagte er. "Ich fürchte, dies ist eine Geschichte, bei der das Ende des Drehbuchs schon geschrieben ist." Suu Kyi drohen fünf Jahre Haft. Ein Urteil wird nächste Woche erwartet.

Argentina - Argentina's president says her country's biggest airline has signed a contract to buy 20 planes from Brazilian jetmaker Embraer. As American regulators slept through the past eight years, several authorities overseas decided that the Intel Corporation has been abusing its near monopoly position in the microchip market to squeeze out its smaller rival Advanced Micro Devices, constraining consumers’ choice.
It is now the United States’ turn. The Federal Trade Commission, which opened a formal investigation into Intel’s business a year ago, should decide without delay whether to pursue the company in court. The issue is not just whether Intel’s tactics against A.M.D. amount to illicit behavior. The larger question is whether Washington is willing to pursue monopolies vigorously for predatory practices and foster an environment where competition and innovation can thrive.
Since 2005, regulators in Japan and South Korea have ruled against Intel. This month the European Commission slapped the company with a $1.44 billion fine. It found that Intel has been giving hidden rebates to computer makers that bought all or virtually all of their chips from Intel and paying some to delay or hinder the introduction of products that had A.M.D. microprocessors.
Intel denies those accusations, arguing that the volume rebates it offers never carried the alleged quid pro quos. The company appealed the Korean fine and said it would appeal the European decision.
For much of the Bush administration, regulators declined to look formally into the charges against Intel. That reluctance was the product of an extremely narrow reading of antitrust law, validated by a conservative Supreme Court that has become increasingly hostile to antitrust enforcement.
In the Bush administration’s view, to get in trouble a monopolist must do worse than use unfair methods to undermine a competitor. Regulators must usually prove that consumers were directly hurt, typically through high prices. When the wrongdoing is to offer a client conditional rebates — meaning lower prices — that can be especially hard to prove.
That view of consumer harm is too restrictive. It often seems to ignore the fact that a dominant firm that uses unfair tactics to marginalize its rivals deprives consumers of choice, another form of harm. Without competitors there is no competition. Without competition there is no incentive for innovation, or to reduce prices.
The Obama administration has a different view. The Justice Department’s antitrust division has rescinded Bush administration guidelines intended to shield monopolies from antitrust accusations. The F.T.C. is also likely to be more active under its new chairman, Jon Leibowitz. He is already considering pursuing future antitrust cases with a little-used provision of antitrust law that directly outlaws unfair methods of competition. The American economy cannot thrive without
Rohöl deutlich teurer
In diesem Jahr fuhren bislang diejenigen Verbraucher am besten, die die extreme Niedrigpreisphase im März für Käufe ausgenutzt haben. Für weniger als 45 Cent war der Liter Heizöl zwischenzeitlich zu bekommen. Jetzt liegen die Kosten wieder bei 48 bis 50 Cent. Und trotz anhaltender Wirtschaftskrise raten die meisten Experten, mit der Bevorratung für den kommenden Winter nicht mehr lange zu warten. "Füllen Sie Ihren Tank noch vor den Sommerferien", sagt etwa Oliver Klapschus von Heizöl24, einem der größten Verbraucherportale zum Thema.
Tatsächlich haben sich die Rohölpreise in den vergangenen zehn Wochen um mehr als die Hälfte verteuert. Ein Barrel kostete zuletzt mehr als 60 Dollar nach 35 Dollar Mitte Februar. Dieser Trend könnte weitergehen, sobald sich die Konjunktur etwas belebt. Hauptgrund der bisherigen Preissteigerungen war nach Ansicht von Experten die Angebotsverknappung von seiten der dominierenden Lieferanten aus dem Nahen Osten.
So hat die Vereinigung erdölexportierender Länder (Opec) seit September 2008 ihre Lieferungen um 3,5 Millionen Barrel pro Tag verringert. "Die weltweite Nachfrage reduzierte sich jedoch nur zwischen 1,6 und 2,6 Millionen Barrel, auf rund 83 Millionen Barrel was den Preisanstieg erklärbar macht", findet Frank Schallenberger, Öl-Analyst bei der Landesbank Baden-Württemberg (LBBW).
Überzogene Ölpreisrally
Ob und in welchem Ausmaß die Preise im zweiten Halbjahr noch steigen werden, hängt von der Konjunktur als eben auch von der Opec ab, die immerhin für 40 Prozent des weltweiten Rohölangebots aufkommt. Kürzungen um weitere 700.000 Barrel pro Tag hat die Organisation laut Schallenberger bereits beschlossen.
Nur mit der Umsetzung hapert es noch, auch weil einige Mitgliedsländer wie Nigeria und Iran ihre Förderquoten nicht einhalten. Marktbeobachter wie Eugen Weinberg von der Commerzbank halten die jüngste Ölpreisrally vor diesem Hintergrund für überzogen und rechnen mit einer Preiskorrektur bis auf 55 Dollar je Barrel. Viel weiter nach unten wagt kaum jemand eine Prognose.
Ermittelt wird auch gegen zwei Bankberater der Stuttgarter UBS-Filiale wegen des Verdachts der Beihilfe. "Der Ausgang dieses Verfahrens ist noch völlig offen", sagte Pfeiffer. Über die Zahl der Betroffenen und die Höhe des Schadens wollte der Ermittler nichts sagen.
Untersuchung nach Fernsehbericht
Die Ermittlungen wurden durch einen Bericht des ZDF-Magazins "Frontal 21“ im März 2008 ausgelöst. Reporter des Magazins gaben sich gegenüber UBS-Beratern in Baden-Baden und Stuttgart als reiche Immobilienhändler aus, die Bargeld am Finanzamt vorbei in die Schweiz schleusen wollten.
Daraufhin bot man ihnen dem Bericht zufolge die Dienste eines UBS-Geldkuriers aus Basel an, gegen den die Mannheimer Staatsanwaltschaft ebenfalls ermittelt.
Bei einer Razzia in diesem Monat beschlagnahmten die Fahnder zahlreiche Unterlagen und durchsuchten auch die Privatwohnungen der Berater in Stuttgart und einer Nachbargemeinde.
