Today we're launching a new channel called ReadWriteStart, in which we'll profile early stage startups and entrepreneurs. As well as startup profiles, we aim to help entrepreneurs in the critical early days of a start-up. We are a startup ourselves, building a business without external funding in a tough economy. So we know the spills as well as the thrills.

In this channel we'll focus on entrepreneurs building web technology ventures. That is what we know best. Some of our writing will be valuable to entrepreneurs in any line of business, but we'll focus on the specific technical, financial, management and personal challenges of building a business online.

Congrats! Great to see another resource for start-ups to pick up tips, advice and perhaps gain exposure.

We joined the Microsoft BizSpark program late in 2008 and have already benefited largely due to access to the entire MSDN catalogue at no cost.

For most start ups, cash at the beginning is tight so this is a huge saving for any start ups wanting to develop a product using Microsoft technologies.

Sounds like a fantastic idea. There are so many good ideas around that just drift into the ether for lack of promotion or publicity. It's the sort of thing that can mean reaching the tipping point.

I know of one startup that can really make an impact given some exposure (and no, it's not mine!), so how does one get information to you for a story?

Great new support tool for start-ups. We will be tracking your developments and potentially might be a source of new companies for review on your site as we are developing a "Venture Ventilator" in Colorado Springs, CO that is attempting to work at the Grass Roots level in terms of developing and nurturing small businesses. We think incubators are a good idea, but are not as agile as they need to be to monetize and convert entrepreneurial opportunities because of their non-profit structures and linkages to financially-conservative patron organizations. We are attempting to innovate a Collaborative Community Capital Investment model that will utilize private seed angel investors in a partnership pool that will be a mix of debt/equity investment with revenue participation options for ROI that will focus on target markets/technologies and sectors, (like healthcare IT, alternative energy, etc) and obtain leverage across companies and participating entrepreneurs who can support other entrepreneurs in the portfolio. Like a "chaotic commune" with controls ! Also, we have organized and put in place a social networking fabric and meetup model called Colorado Springs Entrepreneurs that will help to develop the local "glue" and "cohesion" between the EDC, Chamber and other small business support, that traditionally don't communicate or coordinate their services between each other. This is very much along the lines of your suggested local leveraging models to get existing univ, incubators, edc, and local funding sources into the mix.

Good idea about profiling non-profits and social entrepreneurs, we want to do more of that. As Willy Wonka says "too much time, not enough to do. No. reverse that!"

Re not being limited to Silicon Valley. Absolutely. I am a Brit, born in Berlin, now living in New York who has lived in Asia. Richard lives in New Zealand and Marshall is in Portland OR. So we will not limited by geography. We have posted interviews with VC in Germany and India and one from China is in the works and we will profile entrepreneurs wherever they emerge from.

Great news, as there seems to be a new shit towards the potential value of the start up company as economic times have changes the focus seems to have moved to emerging companies as the rewards if correct are massive.
